Flood Basalts
Flood Basalts are another strange type of volcano. Some parts of the world are covered by thousands of square kilometers of thick Basalt lava flows. Scientists originally though these lava flows swoosh very quickly at high speed like a flash flood. Scientistis now believe this is not the case. The new theory is that these flows are emplaced more like flows, namely slow moving with the thickness being accomplished by injecting lava into the interior of a thin flow. |
